40"x 50"
Fall 2023
Oil on Canvas
This piece is a reproduction of Edward Hopper’s "Chair Car" (1965), in which I aimed to capture the quiet tension and observational quality that defines Hopper’s work. Drawing on the essence of “people watching,” I used a mix of soft pastel tones and bold, saturated hues to evoke the flickering energy of light and contrast. The result is a reinterpretation that plays with luminescence and mood, highlighting both solitude and subtle human connection in shared public spaces.
