For my Spring 2026 internship experience, I worked with the Westmoreland Land Trust, a local non-profit organization focused on the acquisition, conservation, and stewardship of natural lands in Westmoreland County, as a graphic design, photography, and social media intern. This internship followed my Fall 2025 course, Social Media Strategy, during which the trust approached us in need of a solution; they lacked visibility, and many individuals in the community were unaware that the trust existed, let alone how or when to volunteer or make donations. Because the trust’s mission and responsibilities are heavily reliant on volunteer hours and financial support from donors, visibility is key. Additionally, the lands are intended to serve as public green spaces, though many people are unaware that they exist or that they are available for public use.
As part of the course, we worked with the WLT in a volunteer capacity, researching the organization and developing a potential social media plan aimed at addressing these issues and helping the trust achieve its goals. The internship functioned as an extension of this work, during which I created content, managed social media accounts, and loosely tracked metrics through Meta Business. It also provided general industry experience, allowing me to design print publications and gain experience shooting small-scale event photography, as well as photography for content creation and website use. The internship spanned from January 2026 to May 2026 and consisted primarily of weekly independent work, supplemented by 1 in-office day and 1 one-hour virtual meeting each week.
